Pampered Parrots Rescue & Aviary strive to give each of our babies the highest quality diet possible. We wanted to share with you the effort we put into each birds meals.
We are a firm believer in our birds having a pelleted diet. We understand some birds come into our rescue and have been use to nothing but seed. In that case we gradually introduce pellets into their diet slowly. We highly recommend Harrison's Pellets, but due to the large number of birds and keeping cost to their minimum, we have recently switched to Lafeber's.
Lafeber's Premium Daily Diet for Macaws and Cockatoos is 100% edible, highly digestible pellet food that's virtually waste and mess free. Made from high quality ingredients like ground corn, soybean meal, oat groats, and human-grade whole egg, fortified with vitamins and minerals.
Every day we give our birds vegetables. In the summer months our birds are given home grown produce and the rest of the year they receive frozen mixed vegetables. We strive to give a wide varitey of vegetable and fruits. Some of their favorites are: jalapenos, peppers, celery, carrots, and broccoli.
Every other day we give our babies fresh fruit. Our Avian Vet does not recommend giving fruits daily, but 2-3 times a week. For a special treat, they love drinking fruit nectar also in small amounts.
When birds are in captivity, they don't get a wide varity in their diet so it's up to their owner to provide this for them. We at Pampered Parrote Rescue & Aviary mix up several dishes just for our feathered friends. These mixes consist of different types of beans, peas & rice. Our birds love long grain rice, white, and brown rice's, they also enjoy a varity of beans from pinto, kidney, green beans to black eyes peas.
We put a lot of effort into feeding our babies a wide varitty of foods. One of their favorites is Corn Muffin Squares with vegetables and topped with a seed mix.
For the weekend, our birds are given a break from their pelleted diets. This is a special time for them to enjoy more favorites that they don't get on a regular occasion. Each morning starts with a good Quality seed mix, as you can see by the picture..even the seed mix has pellets, and dried veggies in it. We don't want our feathered friends to forget how to eat the things that come natural to them (seeds).
During the day they may be given a special snack such as a boiled egg with shell, dried trail mix, or maybe mixed nuts.
Evening time ends with a special bowl of either dried or cooked pasta, they like both!
