Before you decide upon surrendering your bird, I ask that you check out the facility that you are considering. You will find several ads on the internet with people offering a loving environment and good home to your companion. (Please don't fall for this scam!)

Pampered Parrots Rescue is the only 501 (C) 3 non-profit rescue in Arkansas. There are only a handful of rescues and sanctuaries that are certified through out the United States. We are in the process of becoming certified and I'm currently enrolled in a course to become an Certified Avian Specialist. Even those that are fortunate enough to pass the criteria of becoming certified, it is very rare for a rescue to have a Avian Specialist on site! We are becoming one of it's kind, something you can feel good about.

We have worked with so many individuals in 2009. The references we have listed are the utmost recent referrals. It is with kindness that these people have offered to be a reference for us. Out of respect for their privacy we will not list their contact information. If you would like to speak with one of them personally, please contact me by phone and I will get you in touch with them.

When I contacted Gwen about handing my Goffin's over to her, she assured me over and over again how well they would take care of him.  She took pictures of her set-up and sent them to me so I could see how nice it was for the birds.  When it was time to let her have Simon, we agreed on a place where we could meet to do this.  She sat with me for as long as I needed to reassure me that Simon would be well taken care of.  She also was willing to wait until I was comfortable with the decision I was making.  She continues to send me pictures of Simon and keeps me updated on his settling in.  Gwen and I have become friends via e-mail.  She's a marvelous young lady and very eager to comfort anyone when having to make a difficult decision to let go of a loved bird.  Oh and her family is just like her.....they're all involved with making a home for our feathered friends!

I lost the bird of my dreams ..Stormie .. He flew away and I just can't seem to forget about him and how loving he was.  Well we set out looking for another one and found one just as pretty but not as friendly .. Had not been handled at all .. We thought we could win him over but after getting bitten and some stiches we decided it would be best to give him up.. So I got in touch with Gwen and she assured me that my bird  would have a good home forever and lots of love so I let him go .. She has tried  introducing others to me, but it didn't work out.  And she is still looking for that one special one for me .. She is a very kind and wonderful person.. Loves all the birds and is very good with them.. I appreciate her so very much .. Thanks Gwen for being there when I needed you …Linda Morrison

Gwen and I have discussed bird care and nutrition as well as enrichment.  I know that she cares very much for her birds and she takes in birds that nobody else wants and offers them a place to stay with love and good care.  If I were looking for a parrot to adopt or had to give up my parrots, Pampered Parrots is where I would go.

I met Gwen after I opened my pet boarding business in Northwest Arkansas.  Over the years of boarding various types of exotic pets, I began getting requests for help in addressing parrot behavioral issues and sometimes clients needing contact information for parrot rescues when the pet issues became too much to allow the pet to remain with the family. At other times, pet owners have passed away leaving their beloved parrots without a place to go. Rescues like the Pampered Parrots Rescue run by Gwen and her husband Vince have proven to be an invaluable resource for these families. Gwen's entire family share a true deep love and respect for parrots and the families surrendering their pets feel good about Pampered Parrots becoming their pets' new temporary home until a new forever home can be found.

Hey this is Kathy. I adopted Maverick from you. We have had her dna'd and she is a girl! Her name is now Koko. She is so sweet and spends most of her day in my daughters hair. She's a great bird and has come out of her shyness in a big way. Thank you for her she's great.

I would like to say that it was very fun to work with Gwen on getting a bird that we can live with. When Gwen emailed us to tell us she had an African Grey parrot that we might like I was excited. Gwen stayed in touch with me and Kevin and kept us in the loop as to how our bird was doing. I was so excited the day we got to go get her and we headed out on the four in a half hour drive to meet with her and see our new addition.  I was very glad that Grey was able to come home with us that day. Gwen would not let our new bird leave with us until after she gave us a lesson  made sure we understood everything there was to know about the care of our Grey.  She also made sure that there was a bond between us and the bird. We where thankful that Gwen decided to let us adopted due to we lived so far away, and our new baby would have to ride in a car  all the way back to Trumann, Arkansas. Needless to say he enjoyed the trip.  Our new baby  has been with us for a month now and we love him very much and cant wait to get another bird from Gwen when the time comes.  Thanks Gwen for all you do

Hello all,

My husband and I live in NW Arkansas and have been involved with, enamored by, and in love with parrots since 1990. We moved our menagerie to the country in 2000, and before we knew it we'd offered to rehome and rehab about 20 parrots. The calls just kept coming in from people who were desperate to place their birds, but there really was nowhere close by that took in birds needing new homes. We quickly found ourselves over whelmed, but we were determined to do what we could for these birds. In 2008 I became ill and found it harder and harder to care for all of these guys and started trying to find good homes for some of them. I met Gwen and her family a few months ago via a mutual friend, and she graciously offered to take 4 of my most stable and adoptable birds to her sanctuary. She was SO kind, knowledgeable, and obviously competent and has made a concerted effort to stay in touch, send pictures and just "talk parrots" with me when I'm homesick for them. Believe me, she had to pass a whole battery of tests and answer many, many questions before I sent my beloved pets to her home. I knew shortly after we met that she was a kindred soul and would -with her family and volunteer's help-take better care of my fids than I was able to at this time. I have NO reservations whatsoever in referring people to her and feel that there can be no better place for parrots in need than at Pampered Parrots.

                                                                                         Sincerely,

                                                                                          Barbara Cash
